A Travel Book Should have Many Easy Entrances

by Insightful Reflection · October 5, 2010

This book has proven difficult to use. Finding specific categories such as museums and art galleries is not easy, although the information is in the book. Could be improved with a good index.

Disappointing

I bought this before my recent trip to Berlin. The data was very sparse and difficult to access. I basically found it unusable and just looked at the lonely planet website on my laptop back in my hotel room. Really too bad, I'm a fan of their guides but didn't have time to pick up a hard copy before my trip.

Useless for a tourist

by GiantStride · January 4, 2013

It arranges by "neighborhood." As a tourist, I wouldn't know which neighborhood is where. Without that information, the app is completely unusable. It doesn't even provide a good tourist map. My friend who I travelled with found the actual Lonely Planet book helpful.

Absolutely lacking personality of lonely planet travel guides. Too little information on tourist sites. Cannot recommend app.

Limited map area and no Train map.

The map has limited range and there is no train map or info.. Pretty sad..

Perfect

Used in berlin for 5 days and learned loads... Everything works as described and the offline maps are a life saver. I wish it didn't make you scroll through everything everytime though and it's fairly pricey for such a simple app... Then again you're really paying for the information of which there are several well written megabytes.

Poor app

Very little content and not worth the price or effort to download

Seriously?

by Jo–Jo · June 20, 2010

Wow. I am so thoroughly underwhelmed by this app that I can hardly contain my dissatisfaction. Compared to the printed text, this thing is next to useless. A really poor layout whereby all the contents are in a really really really... really long list such that every time you open the app you have to scroll scroll scroll to the content you want. Which wouldn't be so terrible if the search function actually searched the full text. Or if text contained active links to related content. This is such a poor implementation of the travel book, which leverages none of the advantages of the iPhone and is vastly inferior to the printed book. As a Lonely Planet fan, I am all the more surprised at the poor quality of the app. Were this a version 1.0, I might have a little more sympathy.

Synopsis:
•Extremely poor layout and navigation
•Weak search capability
•Buggy software (i.e. it crashes a lot)
•Poorly detailed map
•No transit map included!?
•Really BAD layout and design
