Lamp and Vamp is a roguelike game where you play as a Vampire seeking the castle of his dreams.

Your Vampire is alone against the world! You will need to master the dark arts to find your way to the tomb in each level, where you will acquire new powers. Choose them wisely: there are many paths to success, but the slightest mistake can be fatal!

Winner of "Best Game" and "Best Art" at http://proceduraldeathjam.com/ in March 2014.

Tom Christiansen, http://www.gamezebo.com/2014/03/29/browser-pick-lamp-and-vamp/ "Lamp and Vamp is an enjoyable strategy game where players must navigate a vampire to his coffin through a randomly generated neighborhood, while avoiding the local neighborhood watch, determined to catch them. Movement is based on a tile system, each turn the player can move to any adjacent tile, and the vampire hunters also move one tile. The catch is that the vampire hunters have torches and flashlights, and can see ahead. If the vampire is caught in the hunter's line-of-sight, all the hunters in the neighborhood will converge and attempt to corner the vampire, resulting in death."

Adam Smith http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/03/27/lamp-and-vamp-is-the-best-free-game/ "It's a puzzle game in which you play a vampire who is trying to return to his coffin. Pesky townspeople and priests block the way but using your powers (BAT-FORM, MIST-FORM, BLOODSUCKING), you can navigate the streets and find your way home. It's absolutely splendid."

And Thomas Schulenberg in http://www.joystiq.com/2014/03/30/lamp-and-vamp-vants-you-to-suck-blood-but-with-strategy/ "If there's one thing that Lamp and Vamp has taught us, it's that being a vampire is tough." ^-^

Love it!

Game of pure chance

You pretty much wander around until one of the guys hits you with a light. Once you're lit up, it goes ahead and gives you another turn, but only turning into mist (costly enough to basically be suicide) will keep the enemies from instantly killing you. For similar reasons, the damage reduction power up is basically useless.

A disappointment

While the concept is cute, the game moves too slowly to even be a time-waster. I feel like an eternity passes between my moves and the game's. I can't recommend this; this is not the game you seek.

a nearly perfect distraction

I'm writing this after finally beating the game and am ecstatic. It was just hard enough and very well balanced, level generation was very fair, no decision could be taken for granted or done without consideration of the whole journey. The game doesn't cheat, it's completely deterministic. It's hard in the best way possible. Study the bestiary and look three moves ahead in your mind. I say nearly perfect because... * The power upgrades are not well balanced. -1? That's out of proportion. * It would be great if you could see your current upgrades while picking your next one. * I do love the turn guides that were added (though should probably be an option for those who want it harder) but I can't tell turn order at all in the quick game and that has cost me a lot (and did that preference disappear?). * The cut-off bottom of the globe in the middle of the screen when you start is super distracting given how much attention to detail the whole experience is. I don't think adding a new biome would ever be necessary. I'm very happy to have finished Vamp's story. I'd love to see what else this developer comes up with!

Excellent update to make it 5 star

#1 - you can tap on your vamp to basically "pass" your turn and stay still. This lets the baddies keep moving around you. (Mitigated by update with arrows on baddies) #2 - pay attention to the way the baddies turn when they hit an object or eachother. I believe the slayers turn right and the priests turn left. #3 - only use your special powers to get out of a jam Since I discovered tips 1 and 2 the game lasts much longer. It's still a tough one and requires some cranial power. Very enjoyable. I finally finished - very enjoyable - great go to for a quick turn-based-puzzle-game-with-mild-RPG-elements

Confusing at first, then tedious

I love most turn-based strategy games but this just doesn't do it for me. There's a steep learning curve (you really need to study the bestiary to see how enemies move and for some reason you can't access that while in game). Once you do figure out how everyone moves the game becomes monotonous and pretty boring. Once you master the simpler levels it's just a chore to play through them to reach the harder levels that match your skill level. You start from the beginning every time and this just becomes a drag. Fewer levels where the difficulty increases faster would be much better. Also much of the game is about waiting and waiting, and this just isn't very fun. I wanted to like this but ultimately deleted it (I did make it halfway through the fourth and final world but I'm just not motivated to continue).

Fun but frustrating

The game itself is great but if you loose a level you have to start over from the very beginning even if your 5 missions in. It's very annoying and I wish you guys would make it so that you just restarted at the beginning of the mission you just failed. Other than that the game is fun.

Fun game but...
