Last update 2012 not ready for iOS 11

by loopy! · November 19, 2017

Have not updated my iPad to iOS 11 yet because this version will not load in iOS 11. Can't say this app is dead because Repos Games still puts flyers in their game boxes for the Ghost Stories app. Why advertise an app if it won't support iOS 11?

Glitches

by Mike Jensvold · April 9, 2016

Nice game, fun, brutal like everyone says but I keep encountering a glitch that causes the game to fail to load.

If I try to take back a move it often quits out of the app and won't go past the main menu. Recently I can't even start a new game after one play through causing me to try and delete and reinstall as a work around.

Please fix.

Needs iOS 11 update

This will not work without iOS 11

Never fixed, now dead on iOS 11

by pbeasi · September 19, 2017

This app was always plagued with bugs that were never fixed despite me reporting them. Tiles would disappear, rules would not be correct if you moved certain ghosts, and if a game crashed in the middle, resuming was impossible most of the time.

It's been 5 years with no updates so now it won't work on iOS 11. I don't expect this or any of he problems to get fixed.

Can we get an ios11 update for this, please?

If you have ios11, this game will no longer work for you. Otherwise< when it was working, it was a decent game... and a good way to check against rules you might have been confused about with the physical boardgame

One Of My Favorite Cooperative Board Games

by Gadsden1776 · May 7, 2016

UPDATE, 2/4/14: I just beat the game on single player, initiation difficulty!!! Wow!! Boy, that was still hard and I lost a good handful of times before that! This is a faithful iOS port, difficult like the actual physical version.

Please add asynchronous gameplay through the Game Center!

ADDITIONAL SUGGESTIONS TO THE DEVELOPERS:

1) Add options to make Wu Feng come out earlier and to customize ghost cards in the game, such as removing all ghosts that are 4's. This will make the game easier, as an option. Of course, someone doesn't have to elect such options if they want normal play. Since the game is now digitally replicated, adding these and many customizable options will likely increase repeat game playability.

2) Update the rules. The Wu Feng incarnation card I drew when I beat the game isn't in the rules to read about. This card had a FIVE "5" on it! I would like to read about all the Wu Feng incarnations for interest and to better prepare.

3) Add an in-app method to provide you with feedback (such as this) and to report bugs.

4) The game did crash on me a couple of times when undoing a move. It wasn't a lot, but a fix would be appreciated.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: I love horror and cooperative board games, so this fills that void perfectly. My 8 year old daughter and I are playing and I absolutely love it! So far, we are doing quite well! I also really like the artwork and sound effects. I can see that it will take me a while to get a strategy down because there are quite a few things to learn and master...even the instructions say to have patience due to a steep learning curve. Perhaps that is the reason for some of the negative reviews? So far, I'm really glad I took a chance in downloading the app despite the negative reviews.

As far as cooperative board games, Ghost Stories and Whoowasit are my favorite. I have Forbidden Island as well, but after playing Ghost Stories and Whoowasit, Forbidden Island is boring to me.

SUGGESTIONS: Add synchronous and asynchronous multiplayer with audio and text chat (to work together) through the Game Center. Add the ability to have more than one game going at a time. Keep updates coming please!

Please update

Great app. It's convenient to play using this instead of setting up the board. But the developers aren't updating it for the new iOS. I don't want to lose this app. Also, make the play a little smoother and add the new expansions please. But first please update so I can continue to play.

It somehow won me over

The biggest problem with this game is the manual. This happens often (Caylus, King Ludwig) where the developers assume either that they don't need to explain things since the app is taking care of it, or assume that everyone already knows how to play and gloss over important details. THIS app completely fails to explain what buddhas are for or how/when to use them, and tells you not to worry about the rules of ghost placement. The first (as it turns out) is one of the most important actions you'll be doing, and the second is important for planning purposes.

So with this, and some other digital board games, you'll need to find the actual manual online and read it. My first plays were just terrible. Like sitting under a landslide.

Once I actually understood how to play the game (no thanks to you, Mr. App) I came back to try again. I've never won, never even seen the boss monster appear. So I'm still losing, but somehow this puzzle has latched onto me and I find, after a break, I'm ready to go again. This is a very interesting game.

Too bad there appears to be no ongoing support and this will disappear with the 64-bit update on IOS 11.
