Explore the untamed jungles of Guatemala at Tikal, the infamous Mayan city.

Reviews:

"Tikal offers jungle brilliance for 10 action points a turn" - TUAW

"Deep strategic gameplay... provides a 4-Dimple [out of 5] cerebral experience." - AppSmile.com

"Tikal [is] a game I enjoyed my time with and is easily worth the money." - Gamezebo

Send your expedition members out from base camp to discover buried treasure and uncover over-grown temples. But stay alert, as both treasures and temples can change hands as you compete with other expeditions!

Each turn, you place a new tile representing an area of the jungle you have just mapped, then spend action points to explore. When a volcano tile is revealed, each player has one extra chance to improve their position, then points are awarded. Plan your moves and stake your claims wisely, and your expedition will take it's place in the history books!

With no setup time required, no pieces to lose, and no arguments about the rules, the future of board games is here and Tikal gives you exactly what you want -- to play!

How to play:

Choose your favorite of 6 Mayan totems as your avatar, and then discover the true power of this ancient civilization as you compete against them in solo play.

On a players turn they perform the following actions:

1.Place the next terrain tile on the board; and, 2.Use 10 action points to explore Tikal

Play continues in order with each player placing a new tile and exploring until the volcano tile is drawn. When a volcano tile is drawn players are scored and given 10 more APs to set themselves up for the best possible score.

After the last tile is played a final scoring round occurs and the winner is determined.

The trucks ruin it for me.

by Dr. Zachary Smith · September 23, 2019

In the original board game, the players were represented by blocks. But for some reason this app has replaced them with little buzzing trucks. I didn’t think that would bother me, but it does. Now it doesn’t seem like I’m hacking through a jungle. Instead I’m just driving a truck from place to place. The whole mood of the game is ruined.

Very well done port

I enjoy Tikal, one of my top 5 best ever games. This port scratches the itch and looks great doing it ;)

Fun easy to love board game

by Heute.cdw · March 16, 2014

I handed my wife the iPod with the rules pulled up. A short while later, she beats me her first game! Very fun, easy to like, and great potential for depth. Only need a tutorial for 5 stars.

Great game

by NicolH · May 4, 2014

I was looking for a fun stategy game that is playable in small chunks of time. It needed to be a game where I could quickly figure out where I was and what I was planning, even if it had been a few days since I last played, and to not have any kind of time limits. I downloaded several games; Tikal is the one I keep playing. The game has enough variety and challenge to make it fun to play repeatedly. The app is visually appealing and it's AI and hints are great for helping beginning players learn the game easily and increase the level of challenge when ready. It can be difficult and sometimes frustrating to tap the tiny pieces, but at least the game confirms that it was your intended move before playing and the game has an undo feature. One thing that almost never works correctly is the screen rotation, which is very frustrating when I'm trying to play with my phone plugged in on my right side, which seems to happen often.

Fun Game. Needs better AI and Working Multiplayer.

by Blackhawks 19 · February 17, 2014

I'm new to this game and really like it. A quick tutorial would have helped me pick up this game faster. AI is pretty weak after playing a few times and I've never been able to get through more than a couple of moves with multiplayer. Needs update - 2 years and counting. Will likely buy the board game too to introduce to friends.

Great but weak AI?

by Tpppppppppp · February 2, 2015

Having fun with this so far! Well worth the money. I have only played a few games thus far but as you can see from the title I am a bit worried the AI may be too easy. Other than that I would definitely recommend this. Hopefully the other games in the bundle(this is available in a bundle of 5 games, I believe) are just as as good.

Online is broken

by Psychotron83 · December 3, 2013

When playing locally the app works great. But if your trying to play online then it's pretty bad. Don't get notifications it's your turn, if you take longer than 72 hours to take your turn then you have to quit the game and can't take your turn. If you have an invite it doesn't always show in the play section it just tries to create a new game with random people. Needs some work before it's a great app.

Great port of the board game with minor AI issues

by MNK71 · November 20, 2013

This is a beautiful translation of the board game. The interface is a little unintuitive at first but that quickly disappears once you've played a full game. The visuals are even better than the boxed game set components. The AI however is rather weak. Even the highest rated AI doesn't seem to make optimal moves that seem obvious, and the dumber AI levels make truly bad choices... Almost simulating human players that have given up on trying! But being able to play against other humans helps make up for this, you're not always stuck playing against easy targets.
