Works Great on iPad.

by Sreaming DizBuster · February 19, 2011

I don't want to discount the reviewers who wrote that this app does not work for them but it works fine for me in still and video mode. My setup: MacBook Pro 2.66 Ghz Core 2 Duo with OS 10.6.6 Canon 5D Mark II DSLR Camera Remote Server 1.4 Server 1.4 is the newest version and can be downloaded from their website. The size of the iPad screen allows me to check my focus a bit easier while capturing video. Now I don't have to bring along an external monitor.

Mixed feelings.

It works, but not as well as I would like. Also, with canon 7d, it likes to crash after you take a photo and then try to view it on iPad. Strangely this program behaves well with 60d. I will look and see if 7d requires firmware update, but I doubt it. Why can we not change any video settings other than start and stop recording? still, I see a LOT of promise with this app, please keep working on it!!!!

Works sometimes

When it works, this program is great But it's so unreliable. Not good for Professional.

A truely pro app!

I am an experienced DP and producer who is impressed with how wonderful the DSLR Remote HD for iPad application works. Yes, it takes time to set it up but the support in terrific (even by phone!!!). This app will save me hours (even days) in the long run of production time. Just make sure your PC or Mac has the very latest operating system installed. With the iPad in my hands I can walk around a set and adjust lights and position talent while being away from the camera (now a 5D MArk II). It's marvelous. Five stars PLUS! John P. Lauri, J. great on my advertising shoots

Just did a discovery channel print ad shoot with a Canon 5d Mk2. My clients loved being able to review on one of my ipads and walk around set wirelessly and make comments as we moved elements around. They could even scan through the images that we had shot earlier and zoom into the images! Wow. Just great. I could even stand back with my clients and fire remotely so they could critique shot timing.

Not what was expected for video

This review is primarily based on the VIDEO capabilities of this app as that is the only reason I purchased. The description states that it adds support for video start/stop and AF, but the thing they don't say is that's pretty much all it does in video mode. You cannot change any of the controls like ISO, aperture, shutter speed or focus point. All things you can do in the stills mode and in Live View mode, so I assumed this is obvious and necessary functionality for video. I tested the app with a Canon 60D...I have not attempted to use any other cameras in video mode, but was very disappointed that the camera controls are not available. It makes the whole point of having this is a true control point for a second camera pointless. Everything else on the photography side looks awesome...just have no use for it and don't have enough info to speak to how well the new HD functions over the Pro version.

dslr camera remote hd doesn

DO NOT BUY THIS APP. Not only does it not work, e-mail tech support (the only kind available) is totally non-responsive...10 days and still no reply from them. Too bad it doesn't work, and that tech support is only available thru e-mail. I can connect my camera to the server, and the server sees it, but the ipad app doesn't see it. Still waiting for a reply from their tech support--5 days now and counting. Their knowledge base is not very helpful, either. Given my experience, it is hard to recommend this software, clever tho the idea is. E-mail tech support is not useful unless replies are quicker. That they don't offer phone tech support at all is not a good sign.

Absolutlely useless!

$50 down the drain! I used the DSLR Remote on my iPod Touch without a hitch but thought it was of limited use since the screen was so small. Like many other users, I eagerly waited for an iPad version to come out, and although I thought the price was a bit high (2.5 times the old version) I pressed the buy button anyway. What a mistake! I have wasted hours trying to get this to work but I can never connect to the the DSLR Camera Remote Server! I have followed ever step in the pathetic troubleshooting page on their site to no avail! I even tried calling their office only to receive a message that their office is closed -- on 3 pm on a Friday afternoon! Hopefully, I can get my money back. BTW, I have the latest version installed and do know how to operated a computer ( former IT guy)
