Based on the reviews, I was very skeptical on the quality of this app. However, my obsession with fighting games took over and I purchased it. I expected a mediocre fighter but I got an excellent one. Now I've never played virtua fighter before, I've always enjoyed street fighter and king of fighters. Even so, this game works great. Unlike many other sega ports I've yet to experience slow down (iPod 4g). The graphics are good for genesis and the sound is as well. I personally don't get the hate but oh well, I liked it. Keep it up sega!
This is nothing like the real Virtua Fighter 2. I'm pretty sure the new iPhones can handle the graphics. Take a look at what Namco did with Soul Calibur in the App Store. It looks amazing and is the exact version that was on Dreamcast, only better and in high definition at 60 frames per second.
Not smooth and bad controls.
It's alrite but it could have been better still I got it cuz it's one of my favs all-time
I'm just happy I can listen to Ride the Tiger(Akira's Stage Theme) as I play. Hands down I love Virtua Fighters.
After reading this reviews, I was hesitant about purchasing this app. First off, I have played the original VF and VF2 in my arcade days. I have played a number of fighting games in my time and Virtua Fighter is the only one I ever really enjoyed. I have played it on the Sega Saturn and Playstation in addition to the arcade versions. I had never played the Genesis version until playing this port on the touch arcade. Of course, I like the Genesis version the least, mostly because it lacks two of the key VF2 players: Shun and Lion. When this app went on sale for $.99, I decided to give it try. I must say that I am pleasantly surprised by how well the control scheme plays on touch devices and find them very responsive. I am able to recreate many of the moves (not all) that I find myself still knowing after all these years. I still play these games via MAME occasionally using an X-Arcade controller, which of course is the most satisfying experience (though it would be hard for me to carry all that around). I do share others criticism of the use of the Genesis version. It seems to me that the Saturn version (superior to Genesis) could have been used. I am not so sure that the arcade version could have ported, though that would have been preferable. Anyway, aside from the subpar graphics, this game plays quite well and knowing what I know now, I would pay the $1.99 and I do recommend it to others who love VF as I do. It would be way cool to have a port of the original arcade VF, which I believe would be very doable on this platform, especially considering that the control schemes work so well.
This isn't Virtua fighter, it is Street Fighter with VF skins. It is jerky sprite based motion and none of the smoothness and responsiveness of the VF games. This imposter ties together awful graphics, horrible mechanics, poor controls, and crappy gameplay. It is simple thievery of 2 bucks.
