8 of 25I made a “life time” purchase of 8player Pro some years ago and used it A LOT. The app was great and did everything I wanted. Without warning they changed it to a subscription model. I WILL NOT sign up for this and will start using an alternative app.
Don’t trust them
Scam ! I paid a full version years ago , now they want monthly subscription !
As a developer who has apps in the store for 15yrs and understand the issue you’re facing. But You’re essentially violating the original agreement by removing functionality that’s been paid for. If you want to rewrite the terms, leave this sku frozen/unmaintained in the App Store and make another sku that is subscription based with all the new features.
Changing to a subscription after already paying for the app. I wouldn’t even bought this if it was an subscription <br/><br/>Report to apple demand your refunds. We get what we tolerate. Dev-Save your feedback. Words are meaningless
I paid for a lifetime license. Now they want to force a subscription model in order to continue using app. Let us keep and use the old app we paid for, and create a separate subscription model for new users.
You should end of life the app, allowing the people who purchased the app when it had all of the features that they paid for to keep that revision. Going forward, a new version / Revision of the product asking for your monthly subscription from future purchases. What you did is not good business and sure won’t attract people who paid for the app to continue. Going the route you went, gave all of your existing customers the short end of the stick for what they paid for.<br/><br/>Received from App creator:<br/><br/>"Thank you for your feedback and for your past support of 8player. We understand why this change feels especially disappointing for users who previously purchased the app. This was a difficult decision for us. To keep the app maintained, fix issues, support new iOS and tvOS versions and add new features, we had only two realistic options: fully stop supporting the app or move to a subscription model. We understand that this may not meet your expectations, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback."
The software itself is solid, but the business model is insulting. I bought the Pro version thinking I was getting lifetime access, but the developers decided that one payment wasn't enough and forced a subscription on top of the already purchased Pro status. I tip my hat to such boundless greed. At this point, it’s a matter of principle: I’d rather pay a subscription fee to any of your competitors than give you another cent. This is the perfect way to burn bridges with your loyal customers.
