Can't Get It To Work, Previous Versions Great!

by JadenAR · July 10, 2012

I never had a problem with getting VLC or any other Hobbyist remote like app to work on any of my devices. No matter what I do I can't get this one to work on any of my devices despite using the install helper and briefly completely opening my network and firewall to test. Actually their Off Remote works beautifully on everything I have. What's up?

Worth the $5

Great if you use VLC from your computer to your tv, makes it so you don't have to get up off the couch after each episode.

All features meet or exceed expectations

Great

Great easy app

It works

by RazzInTown · April 19, 2010

Setup was amazingly fast and easy with their handy download. The app works very quick too, and file browsing on the device is fast. The problem is that the interface scares me away. It doesn't look like any other app out there, like it's violating the Rules for app design. The buttons along the bottom should really open new pages, just like the tabs along the bottom of ALL of Apple's apps. Instead, these things just open up a popup, which is annoyingly ugly. And that isn't even consistent, because the news button opens a new page, which by the way, has to completely resize based on orientation, and once failed to do so, giving me stretched text.

Consider doing popups like the mail app, and keeping the file browser in view during landscape. There is no reason to have a popup always only get 1/3 of the screen. If we need to get to the playback controls, we can just use the back button..it's not like pause and volume is a mission critical thing, or that people will get confused about what page they're on and how to get back to the pause button.

Also, having the full screen button on the top right of all popups and pages is redundant because with a popup open, there are two of the exact same button right next to each other. Every popup then has its own set of button along its top and bottom, while the main page is still visible, making things look very complex and overcrowded. Keep it simple!

Impeccable

I've been using hobbyist software for a few years now, Off and VLC for iPhone so I bought the iPad version of VLC even though its a little price, to support them and because I love the apps. I use them regularly for watching movies and such in bed. No complaints.

Great app

Fantastic remote for VLC!

by Bluefire211 · November 13, 2010

I use VLC on my media center and this app is exactly what I was looking for to control it with my iPad. Set up couldn't have been easier with the setup helper you can download to your media center. The interface is extremely responsive and very easy to navigate.

The only feature I wish it had was the ability to search for a file, but all of my media is organized so I can live without. If you need a remote for VLC, look no further!

Don't get it if u have the iPhone version

by Rockey.NY · April 27, 2010

I have been had, pretty good!
So I was in a rush, trying to download the iPhone version of VLC Remote (which has served me well btw) on my iPad.
I search for it, result shows up and I tap on $2.99 next to the title, real quick.
As soon as I run the app "SURPRISE!!" I'm on the iPad version. Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome app, but I didn't really need to spend that extra $3.24 on this app, the iPhone version would've been good enough even on iPad.

They should label the apps more properly. It's kinda misleading!
