Bad sounding piano...

by WBB · March 11, 2012

The interface is nice. Midi support is good. None of this matters if the sounds are bad. Useless piano. Wish I could get my money back

Beware - NO SUPPORT!!!

Good luck figuring out how to connect the MIDI wireless, the settings don’t appear as described! And you keep having to reconnect when you do get it to work. But you won’t get that far - because the keys freeze and the pitch just starts squealing! And there is NO support! “Report a problem” goes to a deadend at their website, with no contact info besides an unused Forum. Looks like a wonderfully designed app - if it worked!! But they aren’t there to stand behind their app, don’t waste your $$!

My Favorite Piano App

by pookerella · August 21, 2012

Even if just for the scales mode, this piano app is worth its weight in gold. Great recording capabilities and options, realistic sound, and fun to use, it's been my favorite piano app for quite some time. Others come and go, but I always come back to Pianist Pro! :)

Crashes a lot

by $76buqehdom · December 15, 2012

Crashes when I try to open a saved file, crashes when I tried to use it along with Thumbjam. No way to export it to Dropbox or even to do an Sonoma Audiocopy. Cannot directly export to Soundcloud. Please fix these issues and I will give you more stars.

Ultimately does the one thing I need it to

Frankly, this review would be a lot harsher if I'd wanted this virtual piano to sound decent and be vaguely like playing an actual piano. Unintuitive to the point of being poorly designed UX aside, the sample playback engine is remarkably poor. Even using an 88 key digital piano as a controller keyboard, it is almost impossible to get a decent performance out of this. The samples don't respond to sustain and key velocity in any sensible way, forget about aftertouch or ghost notes. It plays like a handful of single-velocity samples with poorly executed ASDR envelops, and no round-robin switching between sustain and held notes. It's like banging on a mediocre sounding upright with a hammer for all of the nuance you can get from it. In the end however, what I needed was an app that would record MIDI while I sketched out songs, and then send MIDI out back into my DAW later in. And alas, GarageBand doesn't do MIDI out. This is actually a decent MIDI recorder. So I use an external metronome and the audio of my Casio digi piano, and it works well enough in that regard. But unless you are using this app in this one specific way, just buy GarageBand, whose sampled pianos shine a harsh light on this app by some measure.

I just wanted to say I love this app!
