8 of 9Excellent well thought out app. "Fare" share is great option. Backing out sales tax feature was not well explained, but once I figured it out I was even more impressed. Great job development team!
Totally amazing app! I have got to share this one with friends and family.
Not a bad app, in combination with Apple's calculator. Simple and easy to use, but it needs two things. 1) We shouldn't be limited to giving a maximum of 24% tip. A lot of people pay 25% tip and some even more. 2) Most importantly we need a way to CALCULATE EACH person's meal. I don't just have a burrito. I have a coke, a burritto, and pie, and I ate some of the queso and chips that we all decided to split. The couple next to me shared their meal and the boyfriend is going to pay for both people's meals but she wants to pay for his dessert. They both had some queso. The poor intern can only afford to pay the tip and his buddy is going to pay for his meal. All of these sorts of situations (and more) need to be available in this sort of app. Rather than enter costs per person, a meal calculation app needs to allow the user to enter each FOOD ITEM, then let us put how much each person is going to contribute to the cost of that food item. Sometimes the food item will be split. Sometimes a person will contribute just $3. The calculator needs to allow for that. Same for the tip. Not everyone is always going to pay equal parts of the tip. If the waitress screwed up my meal, I'm not going to give her the same tip as my friend at the table who has fallen in love with her. The tip needs to be calculated on a per person basis. Allow for both percentage as well as whole numbers. Currently, Fare Share requires us to use a seperate calculator to total up each person's meal first, then put each person's total into the Fare Share app. Then it calculates the tax and tip. Yes, it includes a tip calculator along with a meal splitter. But I don't need a tip calculator nor a meal splitter if I'm going to use the native calculator app. Calculating a tip is EASY! Any 6th grader can do it. I need an app that will help me to divy up a restaurant bill easily and simply. And this app just doesn't do it. Yet. It might with some improvement. But if you think this is the only app you will need to divy up a bill, you are mistaken. You need the calculator app at least. 3 Stars
I would pay $5.00 bucks for this app well thought out great design and very easy to use, makes this a must have. The fact that they are giving it away for free, makes it a tell all your friends about it! WELL DONE GUYS KEEP IT UP!!!
I went out with some friends today we had a difficult time figuring out the tip. So when I got home I looked for a calculator that would do everything I wanted while we were at the restaurant. Then, after seeing a few of the other apps I came across this one. The ability to do a fair split so each person pays for what they ate is what I was looking for. This app can do that very easily. Plus it has the ability to email the receipt plus it has a flashlight function. There is a review from 2010 saying that you need a separate calculator to figure this out. I'm not sure if this was the case or if they just implemented it in the new release, but as of October 2011 this is no longer the case. It has a very intuitive interface where you put somebody's name and then you add the items on their bill. All in all, I was very impressed and this is by far the best tip calculator I have seen on the Apple Store!!!! Thank you
This tip calc app is more advanced than most of what's out there, not like all the 'toys' you normally come across. What I've found is that many tip calc apps do as much as you can do with the built-in calc, but this one goes WAY beyond that! The sliders are easy to use, and input is straightforward. I tried it at home (to get comfortable with the controls) before using it with friends, so I was able to quickly use it with confidence! ;) It was quite a hit! I think it's awesome that you can email the "receipt" (both for others and your own records). The App's icon in the signature area is a nice touch, almost elegant, without being obtrusive. At first, I was put off by the name, since 'fair' was not used. I understand the reasoning, so I'm glad I didn't let it cloud my judgement. In a future version, I hope that it will be possible to easily switch between the fair share and even split modes (possibly with some sort of a 'Transform' icon between 'Edit' and 'New'). Another suggestion: add another color theme. While I like the colors chosen, they are slightly dark, and in some situations, I might prefer the text to be in black.
I used to sit at the table with the restaurant check and calculate everyone's costs by hand. Meal cost + % tax + % tip, once per person. It took forever. This app made that process disappear entirely, and it's nearly instant. Emailing everyone a copy of their $ total with a picture of the original receipt is amazing! Now they'll remember to pay. :) Use the "Fare Share" mode once instead of an even split and you paid for the app (unless, of course, you had the most expensive meal)! Now it just needs a built in calculator...
I initially felt buying a tip calculator was a waste of money, but this one erased it all. Even if you don't like using a tip calculator, the UI will make you want to visit a restuarant just to show the sparkling UI. As for functionality, it delivers! Give it a try
