Poor app

by LPAppsSuck · August 17, 2010

Now nearly 3 years out of date this app is a waste of money. It only has short descriptions of a few places and is not worthy of the Lonely Planet brand name. If you buy this app through the LP app, it will never be upgraded. So, even though you buy it through iTunes and the LP app, it is frozen in time and will forever be stuck in 2007.

Take this app down

It's old, it's non-specific. No help. I fell for it and paid for it. Deleting now.

Not very good

It was the first time I tried to use an app like this in a new city. The logic of the navigation is strange. There is no metro map, this kills everything, you need another map for that. The info about the museums does not give you the entrance fee, which is quite important. There should be a top ten list for the different categories or districts, otherwise you either have to browse the whole app in advance, or you only get to places that are close to your current location. What about guided gps enabled tours or at least recommended walking pathways for the districts?

Not worth 4 bucks

Which is strange because their books are decent. There's no Metro map, so that'll require bouncing to other apps. There are plenty of landmarks and such listed, but the descriptions are short and there isn't much info in the way of prices. The app doesn't support iPhone 5, so it looks crappy.

Pretty good for finding sites

I tried a bunch of apps on a recent trip to DC, and this is the only one (other than Google maps) that could do the simple task of showing me what kinds of sites were nearby, with a brief blurb and link to a website for more info. I already had another app for a metro map, so it was no big deal to me that this app just wanted to show me streets. The info isn't all that comprehensive, and I'm not sure how up to date it is, but it was the best among the "off-line map and attraction guides" for DC that I tried. (Google maps was still better, though)

Nice Pocket Reference

My earlier review is below. I am updating this entry as I was able to get the application to work after I removed it and installed a fresh copy. This could be due to too many factors to place blame at the feet of Lonely Planet. All in all the application is useful and great as a quick reference when in the city. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Updated the software which reports that is delivers bug fixes. Application splash screen shows and fades to blue. That's it. It doesn't crash. It just hangs. Don't know what bug fixes were delivered but a whopper of a bug was included. Hold off on the update. LP, please fix this quickly.

Great and portable!

I love the new layout. Has almost everything as the book at half the price. Weirdly missing attraction hours though. Recommended for anyone visiting DC.

Great info, but needs a bit more

I love that the maps are available offline as I've got a non-3g iPad and they came in use when I was away from a wifi hotspot. However, what's missing is a Metro map. If there is one, it's not in a logical spot, such as the "Getting Around" section.
