8 of 25It's also a bit simpler, as he said, because of the views. I actually really like it. You can upload your own instruments, theoretically, but the ones that are here are pretty good too [especially the downloadable ones: there's a steinway in there, and a waldorf synth that's very nice]. Friendly w/live gigs and just a very nice package. I bought this after paying $1 for Melodica, was worried I'd regret this but after I saw all the options and setup [on the iPad, anyways] I think it was a bit of a steal. Hopeful the dev will keep updating, and maybe this review will give him[/get him via other purchases!] money to make the decision easier. :P. CoreMIDI would be kind of nice but the tempo option makes it less necessary ...

Also, not being $40 like the Aurora Studio thing is ... very nice. No way I'm paying $40 for an app, at least not yet, even with all those features.
I've always wanted a tenori-on but don't have a thousand bucks just layin around. This is definitely my new favorite app!
I have tried lots of the apps of this type and this one comes closest to the Tenori-on. (I have played with a Tenori-on hands-on). in fact, having the visual "live play" is somewhat easier to perform on than the Tenori-on where you have to remember what's in each block. The Tenori-on has a bunch of features and playing modes you won't find here, but this does cost hundreds less! It really shines on the iPad where you have room to see your grid and layers clearly.

Functionality wise, I would like to see more robust grid management so you could email a grid in progress rather than sharing it publicly, and a clear way to delete old "noodling around" grids you no longer want. Im sure they take up a minimal amount of space, but it's clutter you don't need, especially on the iPhone/pod.

A couple crazy enhancement ideas... It would be wicked awesome if it output some kind of blended grid visual when connected to an external display. Also, another music app (the lovely but more difficult Pattern Music) lets you play over the top of a song in your music library. It would be amazing if this could work here. You'd have to do bpm detection, but it would rock so hard.

Bottom line, I love this app and if you like bipping and beeping music, you should give it a try.
If that made any sence at all to you, get this app!

I had never tried making music before, but I am on the road to being the next Mozart because of this app.

Only one concern; 8 boxes is a bit short. Perhaps 16 or 24 boxes for more complete songs...

EDIT: Umm, your scales are wrong. Lines 10 and 11 on most of the instruments are switched. This is quite disabling and rather disappointing. Please fix this quickly.
I’m an avid Tenori-On user. The fact that in SoundGrid each instrument needs to have its own scale chosen independently is pretty much an annoyance that breaks the app for me :/
as step sequencers go it's one of the best and i keep coming back to it because it's got a great ui and live gig friendly. wish it had midi support... but you can't always get what you want.
App doesn't work on iPhone 6 plus. Constantly crashes and freezes. Fix it or refund my money!
Not sure if the button for patterns is working. Like I click it and nothing happens. So I am stuck being able to only play the first pattern and it will not continue playing onto the 2nd one.
