This app is a wonderful tool due to its portability and ease of use. I've long awaited the day any form of the OED would be this accessible. So far, I've noticed one major problem: the pronunciation guide seems to be in error. For the phonetic symbol /a/ the pronunciation guide says, "as in c<b>a</b>t, pl<b>ai</b>t". The problem is, the /a/ sound in these two words are not the same; thus, the phonetic spelling for "plat" and "plait" are identical: /plat/. Since this app is available with audio pronunciations for the same price (nice, if I'd known about it earlier - why not just offer 1 app with everything?), I would suggest getting that one. Otherwise, I hope that the pronunication guide is fixed in future versions!
The shorter OED is expensive, but totally worth it. It is marvelous having a real dictionary available and accessible at all times, complete with etymologies. It is fast, too, and the "fuzzy" lookup works well. I do not regret buying this.
The Oxford English Dictionary is the best english language dictionary. The Shorter OED is a very good short version of the complete multi-volume set. Let's hope the release of the Shorter OED is the first step in releasing the entire set for the Iphone.
