8 of 9It would cost 2 to 3 hundred dollars to get the same information for a garmin plotter. I think this would be fantastic on a 3G iPad. I have GPSNavX, Nobeltec, Echotec and Garmin 440. These are great little charts check the coverage before purchase. Tide and current are really good. Original purchased at ten dollars. The updates really make this app shine.
Used on iPod Touch, very useful as quick planning tool. I'd imagine it would be terrific on iPhone with GPS for real time position display and backup for computer navigation or chart plotter. Very good tide and current displays. (I've found a few errors in current station positions and a couple of disagreements with other current estimates, though. As is commonly said, don't rely on a single source for navigation information.) As with other vector navigation systems, usefulness of information layers varies. Also, not always certain what's going to open up when you tap the screen. Buttons for Search, Distance, Waypoints, Settings are tiny, close together, and easy to miss-hit in portrait mode, but that's just the result of small screen size. It's an extremely good value, though, and a very useful app. Compared to chart plotter or raster electronic CHS charts from other sources, it's an unbelievable value. Worth way more than the price for current tables and as backup. (Experience is with 2.1.)
This is my favorite App, 4.1 is even better than when I first got it in August last year. I don't have a fancy chart plotter on my 45' boat, so this is my main planning and navigation device for my frequent trips around the Puget Sound and San Juan Islands. Great value, you won't regret buying this App.
this is the real deal..tides, marina information and phone numbers, currents in real time... everything you need. If the iphone had a bigger screen you could just use this instead of a chartplotter for coastal and inland cruising..no kidding!I just can't understand why it is so cheap.. any boater would be crazy to pass this app up!!!!
Amazing value. Works wonderfully. Route planning and detail checking are great. Tide and current tables... my handheld chart-plotter doesn't have this. A few minor data detail errors... so use multiple references. However, v4.3 has a new "Wait" window that stops you from scrolling seemingly until files are fully loaded. This is a major and unnecessary slow down annoyance. I expect it will be gone soon due to user revolt.
This program is an exceptional value. I have used it both off the Washington coast and in the Puget Sound. Tacking works very well and is a useful function. We used it in the open ocean while trolling for salmon and we were able to easily return to feeding salmon. The depth contours were as accurate as the Garmin marine gps we also had on the boat. The zoom and map scrolling functions make it easy to find new locations on the charts. For the price, this is the best charting software I have ever seen.
Great accuracy. Excellent maps. Only reason it gets 4 stars is marina info isn't accurate-transient berth almost always says no when we know for certain they exist. As others have said, keep your wagoneer guide and otherwise this is a great boaters tool!
Used this as a planning tool for a canoe trip with boy scouts. Was able to use the waypoint feature to plot out possible destinations for our 6-day trip. And more importantly was able to adjust and track while on the water. While the opening "I agree" notice is annoying it's the same on their other products (I have Navionics charts for my boat and used this iPhone app as back-up) the app worked quite well. I geotagged several possible spots for future trips. For $9.99 this was a bargain and uses the GPS functionality of the iPhone well. Seemed very accurate too.
