8 of 15This is literally the best dictionary in the App Store. It has all the words that the others don’t have. Seriously, try looking up chthonic in another dictionary.

For me the point of a dictionary is to be able to look up the words I don’t know, and this is the only dictionary that has all of the esoteric words I might come across.

And I don’t usually leave reviews, but I want to do what I can to help keep this app around because, let’s be honest, most people aren’t looking at quality dictionary apps. They’re using whatever free app they can get and. It realizing what their missing.

ALL THAT being said, I wish this had an offline version. And a Word of the Day function.
This dictionary is far above average — excellent in many regards.

My one wishes that they would add the ability to export bookmarked words – e.g. for vocabulary building, or other uses.
I use it frequently. Like it.
Great dictionary are but I wish there was a way to create lists
I’m still waiting for that simple bookmark sorting feature. 11 yrs and counting!

To the reviews that say there’s no thesaurus…follow the word links. Every word on any page is a live link to another page with more similar words. Isn’t that what a thesaurus is? Links to words that are similar?

It’s not a 3-star app either. I’ve used this app for years(iPad 2, 2012 I think?) but even after all this time, the bookmarked word list STILL has no sorting function, not even alphabetically. If you’ve bookmarked hundreds of words as I have, it’s a slog to do it manually. Grab a W word from most recent bookmarked words and drag it past all the other words to its rightful place at the bottom of the list. Now do that with each unsorted new word. The 2nd issue is not being able to backup said bookmark list as separate readable list file to store and print out for study purposes. All other mentioned attributes in other reviews are true. There are even adapted foreign word phrases like sotto voce and noblesse oblige, a good amount of slang, and outdated but fun words like snollygoster and flapdoodler that do have a purpose when no other word would do the job. And for the consummate wordsmith, the thesaurus feature can keep you entertained for hours. For me, it’s a 5-star app that isn’t. Add the aforementioned vital features and it’s worth a whole sky full of stars!
Indicated as a great thesaurus but only offers a handful of synonyms and only ny reading through the definitions of a word
Amazing app!
Free. No adds. Fast. Does not collect user data.

Links to similar and opposites. More specific alternatives, less specific alternatives. Pronunciation. Usage examples. Origin/etymology.

Well organized and easy to read. Simple and to the point. No word of the day or gimmicky distractions.

I offloaded the Oxford and American dictionary apps in favor of this one.
