Math Magic uses a combination of your choice of vibrant colours, simple interface and a reward system of stars to encourage and teach kids between the ages of 3 and 8. It’s really easy to use. The child simply has to tap on an answer to solve the problem. Whether they get the answer right or not, a real voice expresses appreciation for the child choosing a response.
Once the correct answer has been achieved, just shake your iPhone or iPod Touch and a new math problem will appear. Five successful answers results in a colored star as a reward. Math Magic lets you adjust the levels to customize them for your child. Set the maximum numbers to 5, 10 or 20. You can also set the timer to see how many problems can be solved within a specific time frame.

8 of 25All of my grands, from 5 to 15 can use this app for skill building and review. I really like that you can customize the levels.
I bought this for my 7 year old. I'm pretty upset there is no skill adjustment. He's well beyond adding 1+5. I would have thought I would have been able to up the skill level but sadly it can't. Luckily he can still do the multiplication. Which is basic because the skill level is still very low for that.

I won't use this app with my students because on the subtraction problems there is a visual, and thus confusing, mismatch between the pictures and the mathematical concept they are supposed to be representing. For example, a problem like "9 - 6 = ?" shows 9 red apples under the number nine and then 6 green apples under the number six. I guess if you think of this as a comparison problem (how much more or less?), it works, but the kids I'm working with at this level are confused by these visuals that are there to supposedly help. I would rather see the correct number of apples "x-ed" out, or falling into a basket, or somehow being "taken away." As a teacher, I know the minus sign just doesn't mean "take away" but the developers need to think more like kids and find visuals that support, not confuse.
This was really fun for my kids. They enjoyed going throught all the sets. Fun way to learn math.
This app is loaded with features and covers all basic math. My kid enjoyed using it and it was very useful and helped him to tune up his addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills. The combination of colors used and the visual design of the app is very engaging. In short, worth every penny!
My daughter is in grade 1. They are learning bonds and she is up to 8. If you limit the application to 8, it will ask questions where the result is not limited to 8 but where the numbers in the question are limited to 8. This means she is asked what 7 + 8 is equal to. A little tough for 6 year old. Still, it is a great app.
It took 5 seconds to load. It might be .99 cents, but it is TOTALLY worth it!!!!!!
