Take clash royale, make it turn based so you have time to think. Add a touch of chess, a touch of magic the gathering and its basically catnip for my brain. My only complaints would be the unskippable animations that make the matches take longer to get back into. a spotty cell connection is a lose condition.

Some people might think this is a payed review, but it’s not. Stormbound deserves all five stars. There’s stuff you can pay for, and premiums, but there aren’t any involuntary adds, and the gameplay is fabulous. The progression is well paced, and loosing a round feels like learning rather than a loss. there are some really overpowered cards, but, after a lot of tough looses, I realise they’re there to make the game a risky strategy. If your opponent can kill you on their next turn, it’s up to some pretty advanced tactics. There are some problems the devs COULD work on (like balancing matches, and nerfing a few of the super high level cards) but otherwise it’s awesome. I love this game, keep it up Devs!

This game is basically everything I look for in a Turn Based strategy game. I have put the game down a few times throughout the several years that i've played it, but it always seems to bring me back.

This game is quite fun. The deck building is good the strategy is entertaining. But if you are successful enough you reach a rank where your opponents strictly have higher level cards than you. Higher level cards get more powerful results for the same cost. If I match up against an opponent filled with tier 3 cards there’s nearly no counter play with my mostly tier 2 deck. My player level is 14 and typically if I match up with a player level 15-17 I lose 9/10 times. It’s less about strategy and more about card level. The game is fun when I play against decks with the same card level so a good solution would be to add a causal mode where you have set card levels so it’s more about strategy not levels.

The developer’s idea to develop the game is to release several new cards per year. And that’s about it. Special offers in the store are presented as ‘events’. So the game is essentially the same as 5 years ago. When in fact the gameplay and strategy behind it could be so much developed into a game on par with Clash Royale. Alas, it remains a little funny game.

There is a DLS ads running on your game that even after you have waited for it to end there is no close button. So every time that ads comes up I have to close the game to proceed. Sad though.

The actual mechanics of this game are phenomenal. It’s kind of like a mix of MtG and Chess, scaled down. It feels very fun to play. If you have an evenly matched opponent. Unfortunately, cards can be leveled up in this game. Which seems innocuous enough at first, but the card level cap goes up with each level of competition. So if your skill outpaces your cards’ levels, you’re screwed. You may find yourself rather frustrated - stuck at the bottom of diamond league after racing through platinum two months in a row. And the only way to level up your cards enough to keep up is to pay $$$ money or wait a very, very long time grinding and earning in game currency and hoping stuff shows up in the shop. The game itself is great, I’m not denying that, but I have spent over $150 already and that should be enough to enjoy it fully. If I wanted to actually be competitive right now and level up just the cards from the decks that I’ve been using, from levels 3 and 4 to 5, I’d have to spend at least $400. Wack AF.
